How to Refute a Mechanistic Argument
“Logic” & “fact”: two words that mean “reality”
A “mechanism” is simply an observable reality, clearly stated. When your alarm goes off, it creates physical air vibrations. Your ears capture these sound waves and convert them into electrical signals. When these signals reach your brain’s auditory cortex, it interprets the sound and triggers your arousal pathways, ultimately jolting you awake. That description is language pointing our attention to aspects of an observed reality, making what we call a “mechanistic argument."
A mechanistic argument about physical reality says: A causes B.
To refute one, you must show a real, physical system where any single proposed causal link fails (or has been misattributed).
To “refute a mechanism” means:
Showing that it fails through observation of a real system or process that invalidates it, or,
Coming up with a principled explanation of precisely where you think causality itself does not apply.
“Logical” and “empirical” are not different things in a mechanistic reality.
There is no such thing as an illogical fact.
Anything that is protected by ambiguity is attempting to hide its thermodynamic cost from conscious modeling. It is parasitic. D + V < P.
